Liveblogging the RNC

No, not me, silly. Allah is doing some liveblogging and has come up with some priceless works of blog-art tonight. And he's still going strong.

According to Drudge, Chris Matthews was jumped by one of those scary hooded protesters. Other conventioneers and Bush/Cheney supporters have been roughed up, spat at and had blood flung upon them. I'm looking at Matthews on MSNBC right now - I can't tell if he's looking out of the corner of his eye for another attacker or is just having a hard time reading the teleprompter. For some reason his beady eyes are shiftier than usual, though.

As far as what's going on inside the convention, who the hell knows. Apparently Elizabeth Dole was speaking, which means that everyone in the convention hall will have their handguns confiscated for their own good.

For the most part, I'm watching Maria Sharapova in her little grey & red outfit in the third set of her first-round U.S. Open match versus Laura Granville. I wish the USA Network would just leave the camera on Maria's side of the court for the love of Pete.

UPDATE: Arnold just came on stage. His first comments were: "THE GOGGLES, THEY DO NOTHING!" I can't wait to see what's next.

Busy day for the Religion of Peace

The two bombings in southern Israel this morning have now produced a death toll of at least 15 people - with more than 80 wounded.

Not to be outdone, a female homicide bomber in central Moscow killed at least 11 people and injured 33 today. There is no word on whether or not she will receive 77 virgins for her sacrifice for the Religion of Peace.

In Iraq today, some of the jihadists must have been feeling left out, so they beheaded 12 Nepalese hostages. Backcountry Conservative has some links to photos and videos for those of you who are compelled to see such things.

The day isn't over, so there's still time for other followers of this loving and peaceful death cult - er - religion to show their compassion towards their fellow man through maniacal ritualistic slaughter.

UPDATE: LGF has a sample of loving Palestinian children celebrating the slaughter of Israelis in Tuesday's bombings. Seems like Israel really needs to get that fence finished and electified as soon as possible.

RNC Coverage

While I didn't tune into the RNC last night, for those of you looking for a good rundown and review, visit Right on Red. According to Johnny Walker Red, Giuliani whooped some damn ass. You'll also find a warehouse of links to other bloggers who were covering the events. Additionally, you can visit RNC Bloggers for onsite coverage from bloggers you already know and love. I won't be covering it myself, becuase the U.S. Open is on and I don't have the stomach to listen to a lot of the blather.

UPDATE: After watching Giuliani's speech, he did indeed hit it out of the park. It's definitely worth watching. To watch it, go here; to read the text, go here. I'm glad they're reminding the world about 9/11. I had assumed they would roll over to the Old Media's 9/11 blackout, but it doesn't look like they're going to cave in. Good for the GOP - finally doing something right.

Chimp takes up smoking

Johnny Walker Red will be excited about this.

Frustrated chimp takes up smoking.

Sexual frustration has driven a mild-mannered chimpanzee to take up smoking and spitting, according to China's Xinhua news agency.

Feili, 13, has turned from a "gentle girl" into a "shrew", said Liu Bing, the director of her zoo in Zhengzhou, central Henan province.

Mr Liu said Feili's partner at the zoo was 28 years her senior, and was unable "to meet her sexual demands".

Feili was not addicted to nicotine, he said, but was just imitating tourists.

However, she does appear to be quite keen on smoking - and has been known to resort to desperate measures to get what she wants.

Xinhua reported that Feili became excited when she saw a visitor light up a cigarette, and grew impatient when they showed no sign of giving it to her.

It quoted one boy visiting the zoo as saying: "Just now a tourist threw a cigarette butt to just outside the cage - she tried to get the butt with a stick."

First, Big Oil cuts down Feili's trees in the rain forest, now Big Tobacco has gotten her hooked on smokes. Yeah, I'm feeling pretty stupid tonight.

Moonbats invade Nashville

To my bretheren down in Nashville, the loving Marxists from Nashville Peace & Justice Coalition are urging a call to action tomorrow morning (Tuesday, Aug 31) during President Junior's visit to Opryland. Per their website:

Tennessee Indymedia has learned that George Bush will be in Nashville on Tuesday August 31st at Opryland. He will be speaking to members of the American Legion at 9:40am. The Peace Coalition has organized an impromptu protest. Beginning at 8:30am - 9am protesters will begin gathering at the intersection of Music Valley Dr and McGavock Pike at the entrance to Opryland. Please bring signs and banners. For more info call 321-9066.

While I realize that most conservatives can't attend rallies at a moments notice, due to the fact that they have jobs and actually drive the U.S. economy, it would be great if anyone could stop by and take some pictures or video of the demonstration. I'm sure the entertainment value will be worth the 30 minutes or so it would take to collect valuable data for the bureau of moonbat studies. You'd be doing modern science a favor.

Who the hell is making these toys?

The second in a series of 9/11 themed kids' toys has appeared in bags of candy in the Miami area.

This second toy seems to portray a King-Kong-sized Osama Bin Laden standing between the towers of the World Trade Center. The first toy showed a plane flying into one of the WTC's towers in much the same fashion. (Say Anything has a good post on the first toy here.)

I don't know what else to say about these toys, other than someone found the 9/11 attacks funny enough to mold into little plastic goodies for kids. I hope who ever crafted these keepsakes fatally chokes on their own caramel candy.

Speaking of the Bush girls...

The Bush girls threw their own pre-convention party last night in NYC.

Six Meat Buffet hereby requests that the presidential debates be held in a jello pit featuring a series of tag-team matches between Jenna and Barbara Bush and Alexandra and Vanessa Kerry. At least then they would be worth watching.

Rock the vote! Unless that vote is for someone other than Kerry...

Via Drudge:

Sun Aug 29 2004 23:36:31 ET

MTV, ROLLING STONE and the rock and roll establishment -- past and present -- have cast their vote, and their man is John Kerry.

So on Sunday night when John Kerry's daughters were announced to speak at the annual MTV VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS, the MTV youth were expected to welcome his daughter's as pop culture princesses.

Instead, in an era of the unexpected, the daughters of the Democratic candidate were met with cheers -- AND JEERS -- during the live broadcast in Miami.

From the moment Alexandra and Vanessa started speaking, the boos outweighed anything close to cheers, and the reaction turned worse when the daughters asked the VIACOM youth to vote for their father. So shocked by the reaction, the taller of the two daughters tried to 'shhhhhh' her peers to no avail.

One thing that should be emphasized is the brazen attempt by the Kerry girls to silence dissent at the ceremonies. They must have learned well from daddy - when someone says something you don't like, you shhhhhh them. Sometimes it takes the ACLU, sometimes it takes lawsuits, sometimes it takes the Old Media, but dissenters must be shushed! Another example (albeit silly) of the left preaching tolerance, then displaying their own intolerance.

On a completely unrelated note, am I the only one who would enjoy seeing the Kerry girls and the Bush twins in a 4-way naked romp? Oooops, did I type that out loud?

UPDATE: Michelle Malkin has some more details on this story (via Backcountry Conservative).

More protest shots

Lots of folks out in the Blogosphere and elsewhere were out in NYC with their cameras. Here are some additional places to view the appeasers' march through the Big Apple today:

I'll be posting these as I come across them. Hopefully the media will cover some of this stuff - this will go a long way in moving the swing vote over to Bush's column.

The idiots are loose!

I'm starting to wonder why they didn't build cages for the moonbats in NYC like they did for the Dim-o-cracks in Boston. The loons are out in full force - and perhaps like never before in this country - parading their sorry asses through Manhattan.

I'm enjoying the festivities on CSPAN - I suggest you do the same. This massive group of retards is demonstrating exactly why we need Bush to triumph in November. Anyone who punches a chad for Kerry this fall is in league with these people - whether they're moonbats or not - they are accessories to the idiocy of these raving simpletons and any violence that occurs in NYC is on their hands as well.

Little Green Footballs is following the festivities and, as usual, will be a great resource throughout the week for moonbat analysis.

In the 5 minutes I've been watching, I've seen the following signs: "Asses of Evil: Bush/Cheney", "Fuck Bush!", "Bush Lied, Who died?", "No Dick No Bush", "Dick + Bush = Fucked", "End the Occupation!", "Poverty is a Weapon of Mass Destruction!" - you know, the usual creative work of the left. Some chants heard: "Bull Shit!", "Hey, hey, ho, ho Bush & Cheney have got to go!" Quite honestly, I don't know how CSPAN is getting away with this crap.

I thought this would would be more entertaining than infuriating, but so far it isn't. Hopefully it will become so at some point.

Let the madness begin

Unless you've been living under a rock, you already know that the GOP Convention is going to rev up this Monday, Aug. 30. And quite honestly, I'm not looking forward to it anymore than I did the Dim-O-Crack bitch-fest weeks ago.

However............... the protest maniacs are already out in force and it's going to be non-stop entertainment for the next week. Here's an early rundown of some protest highlights.
All in all, this is going to be fun.

Halftime Blogging/Final Olympics Post

The vaunted U.S. Olympic "dream team" brought home the bronze today! I'm so excited. Actually, I was hoping they would come home empty handed. This makes me a bad person, according to Jason Whitlock of ESPN (via Say Anything).

Like many other panty-wastes at ESPN - (they may be a "sports" network, but they're every bit as leftist as CNN and MSNBC) - they are horrified that the public hasn't slavishly licked the boots of this year's dream team as in years past. Whitlock whines:

Americans do not have to support a group of black American millionaires in any endeavor. Despite the hypocritical, rabid patriotism displayed immediately after 9/11, it's perfectly suitable for Americans to despise Team USA Basketball, Allen Iverson and all the other tattooed NBA players representing our country. Yes, these athletes are no more spoiled, whiny and rich than the golfers who fearlessly represent us in the Ryder Cup, but at least Tiger Woods has the good sense not to wear cornrows.

Heavens to Betsy! It's another journalist exposing his own hatred for America (see the highlighted "hypocritical, rabid patriotism displayed immediately after 9/11") - and now we're supposed to be upset becuase he's pissed about the lack of support for this dream team? If anything, his cry-babying has given me one more reason to celebrate their collective failure.

For those of you who haven't figured it out, Whitlock infers that anyone who roots against the dream team is a racist, because the team has tattoos and cornrows. And, while he exposes his own hatred for America, we're supposed to tongue Allen Iverson's dumper no matter what - because he says so.

It's just another journalist providing another example of why journalists are considered as part of the same social strata as prostitutes, drug dealers and trial lawyers (see John Boy Edwards, for example). Jason, don't imply that we deserved 9/11 then attack the public for justifyingly flushing the dream team.

I can't speak for the rest of the country, but the reason I despise the dream team is their attitude. They showed up expecting everything handed to them - the olympics was just another stage on which to showboat their individual greatness and soak up the adulation of adoring throngs of fans. Their effort in competition reflected this self-righteous air of entitlement.

Meanwhile, the rest of the world fielded teams that actually wanted to complete and played team basketball. Rob from Say Anything said it well:

Team USA isn't well-liked by Americans because they're doing a crappy job of representing our country over there in Athens. They're playing on the world's largest sporting stage and they're acting like the games they're playing are mid-season contests against teams from the bottom of the standings. Basketball is an American sport and these men are supposed to be the very best players America has to offer, yet they've been taken to the cleaners a few times this year by foreign opponents.

Where's the hustle? Where's the team-play? Where's the desire to win? These things have been non-existent.

Mr. Whitlock needs to stop making excuses for this team. They're playing like a bunch of losers. They're playing like they don't really care. That's not how you inspire Americans. Americans don't like watching losers. We don't like watching people play sports with indifference.

The cornrows and tattoos don't bother us. What bothers us is their lack of respect for the game.

Now back to the football game - looks like USC may be knocked off their perch early in the season...

College football starts tonight!

Damn! It's finally here. Tonight marks the official start of the college football season as Virginia Tech takes on No. 1 USC.

While it's true that Six Meat Buffet is mostly focused on politics and current events, there will be quite a few football-related posts from time to time, so be forewarned and strap on your damn helmet.

Why are my gut instincts so often right?

The lovely and intelligent Mrs. Holmes asked me why I thought there would be motivation on anyone's part to cover up the fact that the recent Russian double-plane-crash was terrorism related. I didn't have a good answer.

All I can say, is that when the Soviet - er - Russian news agency TASS says "No Evidence of Terror in Plane Crash," my gut says: terrorism, defintely terrorism. I hadn't thought of why TASS would be motivated to cover it up, it's just what they've done for 100 years. Their tradition of government-controlled, cold-filtered news blather has conditioned me to have such a reaction before all others, I suppose.

Some possible motivations for the Russian government might be to prevent panic, to keep people flying, to downplay the terrorism possiblity to lessen the incident's impact on the Russian economy. I don't know.

What would the motivation be for following TASS' lead domestically? Political correctness, of course. Say Anything points out that major U.S. media was quick to state unequivocally that there was "no terrorism involved". If there is one thing we can count on from the Old Media (besides their support for Lurch & John Boy), it's that their love of the Religion of Peace keeps them in denial that we're fighting a global war against Islamofascists. They'll keep denying it until you and I are praying five times a day towards mecca on our filthy prayer rugs.

On this story from the start, Backcountry Conservative has some good links for more details about today's revelation that the crashes were indeed islamic-terror related. I guess I can drop the "islamic" part since that is inferred by the word "terror".

This one really wasn't even a stretch. Two planes downed simultaneously. Big-time elections in Chechnya in two weeks. It simply followed the 3/11 Spain plan to a T. We'll see if they cave in like the spineless Spaniards did.

Free Political Speech Circling the Drain

Now that the hideous McCain/Feingold bill is unfortunately law, both parties are going after the 527s, so that all organized free political speech can be completely squelched.

Boortz has a good, concise summary of the situation - pointing out that both parties have colluded to neuter the ability of groups like the Swift Vets to get their message out.

President Bush has enlisted the services of Arizona's Saintly Senator John McCain to "go after" the so-called 527 groups, that is the Swiftboat Veterans for Truth,, etc. The President wants to shut them down. That's right, he wants to take away their (and by extension, your) right to free speech. Welcome to The United States of America in 2004.

Question: Would the White House please issue a statement telling us just which constitution he promised to preserve and protect when he took the oath of office? Evidently it wasn't ours. Ours, after all, says something about free speech.

George Bush wants to make it illegal for you to pool your resources with some other folks who share your views and express those views through the media. Think about this. You join a group promoting tax reform. One of the presidential candidates supports your cause, the other does not. You want to run ads promoting your tax reform idea and encouraging voters to support your cause by supporting your candidate. This is the very essence of political free speech ... and both George Bush and John Kerry want to make your actions illegal.

There is no scandal in the 2004 presidential election greater than this ... the candidates from both of the major political parties teaming together to deny your freedom to effectively speak out politically. How serious is it? Kerry and Bush approve of placing you in jail if you dare to express your political feelings in a way not approved by them.

I've been bitching about so-called Campaign Finance Reform since its maniacal inception. My inital problem with it was this: When outside groups are forbidden from organizing, advertising, or any other form of getting their word out, the only message that remains is that of the Old Media.

This puts conservatives at a deep disadvantage the closer you get to a national election. When the only media coverage left during an election cycle is the mainstream press, you're only going to get the leftist/socialist filter on the race. NBCCBSABCCNNMSNBCNPRPBS and company will filter the news like they always do - glorifying the leftist candidate and vilifying the conservative candidate (or at least the Republican candidate - there aren't many truly conservative candidates left these days).

Now it appears President Junior is making yet another mistake by succumbing to the media's drumbeat to shut down groups like the Swift Vets and MoveOn.Org. Whether anyone likes it or not - and whether or not the 527s are overwhelmingly leftist - these groups should have the right to organize, fund-raise and advertise. If what they do is libel or slander, sue them. Otherwise, leave these groups alone.

It Might be a Bad Union When...

German prostitutes reject employment contract.

German prostitutes have rejected the first ever employment contract created by union officials.

The refused to sign the deal, which includes six weeks holiday and a pension, because they are to embarrassed to admit what they do...

Based on the regulations, a prostitute is entitled to "30 paid holiday days a year" and should "not work more than five days a week".

The contract also includes Christmas and holiday bonuses for prostitutes.

Only 100 of Germany's 400,000 prostitutes have joined ver.di so far, and the majority of these have rejected the contract completely because they don't want to admit what they do for a living.

Sounds like a pretty good deal to me. That's a hell of a lot more time off than I get - then again, I work for a pretty crappy company, but that's another story for another day.

Now why wouldn't these gentlemen and ladies of leisure sign on to such a generous union deal (other than the fact that unions are evil)?

The union contract attempts to regulate everything from the duties of a "sex worker" to working hours and holiday claims.

Devised by the ver.di service industry union, the legal work aims to regulate the relationship between German call girls and brothel owners.

"Sex workers should have the same rights as any other employee," said a speaker for ver.di.

Looks like these sex workers are craftier than your average glory hole ragamuffin. They probably see the union as just another series of regulators quick to stifle their carnal creativity. You have to give them credit for opposing burdensome regulation.

Are these the same kind of spats we'd get into if we legalized prostitution here in the States? No wonder the government wants to keep sex-for-money on the down-low. They've got enough unions to squabble with.

A Lesson in Opposites

Apparently, Lurch wasn't able to find and burn every copy of his 1971 book, The New Soldier.

The New Soldier blog has the book online for you in .pdf format.

Pictures from the book are available here.

Rob over at Say Anything was kind enough to mirror the .pdf files here.

If you're seriously considering voting for this sack of crap, shouldn't you be fully informed by reading his "legendary" book?

Electoral Leglock

Stumbled across this great post at Right Wing News regarding trends in professional wrestling and how they may give some insight into the political mood of the country.

Which leads me to what I wanted to talk about -- what can politicians learn from wrestling? I know this sounds like an odd topic, but I agree that "professional wrestling is an excellent barometer of the mood of the middle and lower socio-economic strata" and if you screen out the apolitical characters, there are some interesting lessons about politics that can be learned by what the crowd likes and hates.

For example...

Wrestling fans hate rich, pampered, personas who brag about how much money they make & think that they're better than anyone else. John Bradshaw Layfield is a good example. So Mr. McMahon, Ted DiBase, and some other characters that weren't as popular like "The Mean Street Posse" & Tiger Ali Singh also fall into that category. One of the things they do to help establish "Heels" (bad guys) is have them establish limos. John Bradshaw Layfield for example has this huge, ostentatious limo with steer horns on the front of it. It's sort of his way of saying, "I'm richer than you and I think I'm better than you because of it".

Application: Think of George Bush Sr. being painted as a rich, out-of-touch, guy who didn't even know how a super market scanner worked (not a true story, but it still hurt him). Also, I'm convinced that a big part of the reason that George W. Bush is considered more likable than Kerry (of course, both of them are filthy rich) is that Bush not only lives and vacations in little Crawford, Texas, he actually does things like cut brush. You don't picture a pampered rich guy cutting brush. On the other hand, Kerry has all those estates, the expensive mountain bike, and he goes on these exotic vacations where he's snowboarding and wind surfing. It makes people like him less.

There are too many examples to count of the use of class warfare in professional wrestling. It's a surefire way to generate heat for the heels and this may be one of the reasons the left has always employed class warfare as a cornerstone of their national campaigns.

On the other hand, wrestling fans, particularly American fans tend to be very nationalistic. You will never go wrong talking up America or waving a flag around. Furthermore, the WWE made a big show of supporting the soldiers in Iraq.

On the other hand, there's no easier way to gin up "Heat" than to trash the US as villains like the Iron Sheik, "The Russian Bear" Ivan Kolov, and the latest annoying foreigners, La Résistance (they're French, but shocker there, I know) have proven.

Application: If you can point out to people how people like Ted Rall, Michael Moore, & Noam Chomsky trash America, you will permanently turn people off to their ideas.

The Cold War was the peak time for nationalistic gimmicks - the Russians, Iranians (early 80s, really), even the lowly Australian Sheepherders generated heat and I can't remember why. It was probably their accents.

Growing up in Tennessee - raised on Mid-South/AWA Wrestling - there was also a lot of use of the race card in generating heat and attendance. I remember (or should I say, it was seared in my memory) being in attendance at the Memphis Mid South Coliseum when an angle between the Snowman (a huge babyface - big crowd favorite, who also happened to be black) and Jerry "The King" Lawler nearly created a race riot. If I recall correctly, they killed that angle shortly thereafter due to public safety concerns.

This is a topic that really deserves some research and development - and I would imagine there are probably already books written about professional wrestling and its related political/social implications. I'm going to go look for some right now. I don't feel much like working anyway.

MTV: Freedom of Speech? Not on this Network!

Beenie Man Yanked from MTV Concert for Anti-Gay Songs

While Eminem's virulent anti-woman bilge is considered cutting-edge "art," Beenie-Man's violent anti-gay lyrics simply cannot be tolerated. I'm no fan of either artist - and I'm no fan of violence toward anyone on the basis of gender or sexual perference. I simply find it interesting how the cultural toilet that is MTV celebrates the abusive anti-female hip-hop shit of Eminem and countless other misogynist "rappers" but is suddenly offended when the same type of crap is dished out in the direction of gays.

Who the hell is Beenie Man anyway? Is that yet another inventive musical genius that I'm missing out on? I'm sure someone out there will fill me in.

Thanks, Al Gore

We can thank the Al "If I can't win, I'll sue!" Gore for this turn of events: Dim-O-Cracks ask Attorney General John Ashcroft to open a criminal investigation into links between the Bush camp and the Swifties.

All this hub-bub is in the wake of Ben Ginsberg's resignation from the Bush campaign. Ginsberg's comments upon his resignation seemed perfectly logical given how the Old Media operates.

"I have decided to resign as national counsel to your campaign to ensure that the giving of legal advice to decorated military veterans, which was entirely within the boundaries of the law, doesn't distract from the real issues upon which you and the country should be focusing," Ginsberg wrote.

While this relationship (Ginsberg advising both Bush & the Swifties) was not illegal, the Lurch campaign has seized this as an opportunity to give their lapdogs in the Old Media an angle to cover - since they're not bothering to cover the actual content of the Swift Vets' tome.

Not so ironically, these legal challenges are coming from a campaign that is backed by millions and millions of 527 dollars via MoveOn.Org and other such "non-partisan" groups. The Lurch campaign has advisers/lawyers colluding with outside groups - MoveOn, Americans "Coming" Together, et al - but as usual, what's good for the dim-o-cracks is considered foul play when the other side launches an effective series of ads. I'm afraid I'm becoming numb to this type of hypocrisy - they engage in it so frequently, and the Old Media is so quick to comply with their absurd premises, that it's merely accepted as part of the current political landscape and largely ignored.

I contend that these types of legal challenges -- going to the FEC, running to the Attorney General, crying to billionaire wifey -- wouldn't have happened before the travesty of Gore's attempt to steal the 2000 election through the courts. When Gore went off the rails and started filing lawsuits in the wake of his defeat (yes, pansy-ass liberals, I said defeat), that set a precedent that we're now saddled with from here to eternity.

While Clinton lowered the bar on the quality of white-house whore (JFK got much better quality strange for his extra-marital romps), Gore has lowered the bar on election decorum - paving the way for low-character hoodwinks like Lurch and his cronies. Let me state for the record, however, that if I had made the horrible mistake of marrying Hillary the Marxist Hag, I would take shots at every chunky intern who came through the Rose Garden with an open mouth.

But I digress. By the way, has anyone yet heard Lurch refute the content of the Swifties' claims? All I hear him doing now is backtracking on his first purple heart and floating trial ballons regarding an "apology to veterans".

UPDATE: The Washington Times has a good run-down on the lopsided cash distribution between leftist and conservative 527 groups.

Anti-Bush 527s have been a political force this election cycle, with nine of the top ten fund-raising 527s being Democratic or anti-Bush groups, according to the Center for Responsive Politics. Among the top 50 fund-raising 527s, which CRP determined based on Internal Revenue Service records as of Monday, just a handful are working against Democratic presidential nominee Sen. John Kerry.

CRP says three groups — the Media Fund, America Coming Together (ACT) and — have raised a combined $64 million to spend on ads and voter registration and mobilization efforts.

"Democrats as a fact dominate the 527s right now. There's no question about that," said Steven Weiss, communications director for CRP. "And Republicans, who initially opposed 527s, are now getting into the game and trying to raise as much money as possible."

Although 527s have been around for years, they were not exploited until the new campaign finance law in 2002 banned political parties from using soft money. In light of the change, 527s essentially became the outlet for wealthy donors, corporations and labor unions to use their money to influence elections.

Move Along, Nothing to see Here

TASS, the Soviet - er - Russian news agency has reassured us that there are NO signs of terrorism in yesterday's twin plane crash.

No evidence pointing to terrorism as the cause of the Tupolev-134 and Tupolev-154 plane crashes near Tula and Rostov on Tuesday evening has been found yet, the chief of the federal security service FSB public relations department, Sergei Ignatchenko has said.

"As follows from preliminary conclusions by the teams of investigators studying both crash sites, no traces of terrorist attacks or explosions were found. Examination of wreckage fragments identified no traces or terrorism explosives."

According to the official the investigators are considering several versions of the disasters, however, the main one is "illegal interference in the operation of civil aviation or abuse of aircraft operation rules."

The FSB official said all cockpit voice and flight data recorders have been found and brought to Moscow and specialists have begun retrieving information already.

Interestingly, the TASS news agency's tagline proudly proclaims "100 Years of Real Time News". What it should say is "100 years of Bolshevik-Government Controlled, Filtered and Distributed Slightly-Delayed Propaganda". It certainly seems that the same staff that was in place to inform the world about Chernobyl is still hard at work polishing Russian events for public consumption.

UPDATE: Jeff Quinton over at Backcountry Conservative has an outstanding run-down of events related to this possible terrorist incident. Discovered via Say Anything.

Bob Dole Brings the Noise

Via Say Anything...

Bob Dole Defends Swift Boat Vets during unpleasant phone call from Lurch.

"John Kerry called me this morning, which surprised me," Dole told radio host Sean Hannity.

"He said he was very disappointed, we'd been friends. I said John, we're still friends, but [the Swiftvets] have First Amendment rights, just as your people have First Amendment rights.

Dole told Kerry, "I'm not trying to stir anything up, but I don't believe every one of these people who have talked about what happened are Republican liars.

Dole said he urged Kerry, "Why don't you call George Bush today and say, 'Mr. President, let's stop all this stuff about the National Guard and Vietnam - and let's talk about the issues."

Dole said Kerry responded, "I haven't spent one dime attacking President Bush."

But the Republican war hero shot back, "You don't have to. You've got all the so-called mainstream media, plus you've got and all these other groups that have spent millions and millions of dollars trying to tarnish Bush's image."

"Don't tell me you don't know what some of these people are doing," he told Kerry.

"Everybody likes quiet heroes," Dole added, saying he told Kerry, "John, everybody knows you were in Vietnam and the less you say about it, the better."

Every time I've seen Dole since his massive failure in 1996, he's been funny, smart and very likeable. If he'd shown any of that in the campaign, he might have won.

Terrorism? We Report, You Decide.

One Russian airliner down - one reported missing.

There are conflicting reports coming out of Russia. Both planes crashed. Only one plane crashed and one is lost. There was an explosion before one crashed, according to a drunken witness. The details keep coming fast and furious.

Granted, Russia doesn't have the best record of aviation safety on the planet. In fact, they've got life insurance kiosks at all major Russian airports just inside the security checkpoints. However, this one smells like the religion of peace at work once again.

I know it's crazy to jump to such a conclusion, so I guess I'll wait and see what happens with this breaking news.

DMB: Shitty Rock Band

I knew the Dave Matthews Band was shitty, but this is really going too far.

Rock star Dave Matthews and his tour bus driver are facing a filthy lawsuit.

The Illinois Attorney General's office says they're responsible for dumping up to 100-gallons of raw human waste from a tour bus onto the Kinzie Street Bridge earlier this month.

The nasty mess rained down on passengers aboard a sightseeing boat two weeks ago.

So their neo-hippie, music-school-intellectual art-rock wasn't enough to dump on the public? They had to dump this too!?!?

UPDATE: I just realized that this brings up an important question: Does this mean that the Dave Matthews Cover Band (DMCB, to those in the know) will have to rent a tour bus, and dump 100 gallons of their fecal matter in a similar location in tribute to the DMB?

Why does President Junior always do this kind of crap to me?

Bush criticizes Anti-Kerry ad.

Yeah, yeah, it's just politics, and I shouldn't complain. This is a load of crap. How can Bush show so much backbone in taking on Islamofascism in the rest of the world, but is still afraid of the Old Media in the U.S.?

"I think they're bad for the system," added Bush, who had ignored calls to condemn the ad while it was on the air.

Asked about the issue, Bush said, "I think Senator Kerry served admirably and he ought to be proud of his record. But the question is who is best to lead the country in the war on terror? Who can handle the responsibilities of the commander in chief? Who's got a clear vision of the risks that the country faces?"

Bush criticized the groups' first commercial and all other outside group attack ads - many of which have targeted his own re-election.

"That means that ad, every other ad," he said. "I can't be more plain about it. And I wish - I hope my opponent joins me in saying - condemning these activities of the 527s. It's - I think they're bad for the system. That's why I signed the bill, McCain-Feingold."

Bush's comment about 527s was a reference to independent groups that raise money in unlimited amounts. The so-called McCain-Feingold bill, a campaign finance overhaul bill which Bush signed reluctantly earlier in his term, banned the political parties from raising such funds.

Signing McCain/Feingold was another one of the President's massive domestic failures. I wish he would show the same testicular fortitude domestically that he's shown in the war on terror.

More from Grouchy Old Pat Buchanan

Drudge has a unveiled a sneak preview of Pat Buchanan's new book - Where the Right Went Wrong.

Some snippets:

On Conservatives and Conservatism:
"There is no conservative party left in Washington. Conservative thinkers and writers who were to be the watchdogs of orthodoxy have been as vigilant in policing party deviations from principle as was Cardinal Law in collaring the predator-priests of the Boston archdiocese."(Page 9)

I've been barking up this tree since 2001. As I've said before, I'm a Bush supporter and I'll be backing him this November, but you're fooling yourself (or simply not paying attention) if you refer to him as "conservative."

On China-U.S. Collision:
"In Asia, China is the rising power, America the receding one."(127)
"As China is the one nation with the size, population, ideology and power to contest the United States for hegemony in Asia, is war inevitable? "Answer: No more inevitable than was war between Germany and Great Britain in 1914."(144)

On Bush "Free Trade" Policies:
"It is false to say President Bush presided over a 'jobless recovery.' His trade deficits have created many millions of jobs in China."(167)
"Free trade is the serial killer of American manufacturing and the Trojan Horse of World Government. It is the primrose path to the loss of economic independence and national sovereignty. Free trade is a bright shining lie." (171)
Globalization "is the economic treason that dare not speak it name."(173)
"The Republican Party has signed off on economic treason."(8)

On Bush-Republican Fiscal Policy:
"Bush has compiled a fiscal record of startling recklessness."(175)
"There is no conservative party in Washington. There is a Democratic Party of tax-and-spend and a Republican Party of guns and butter and tax cuts, too. Washington is all accelerator, the brakes are gone."(177)

As usual, Pat spouts off a good deal of stuff I don't agree with - for example, he always tends to lean towards supporting the Palestinians, no matter what they do. Israel can do no right, and the Palestinians no wrong in his eyes. Does that mean he's an anti-semite? I don't know - but he's always coming down on the side of Al-Jizzeira (sic) when the issue is what to do about Islamofascism. Pat is also an isolationist to a fault. I am all for national soverignity, but Pat would have us withdraw completely from the rest of the world, even when it comes to defending our interests and safety.

Where Pat is right, however, is his analysis of conservatism and the implosion of the Republican party. There is no party - short of the Libertarians, who are too damned stoned to get anything done - that practices fiscal restraint and smaller government.

I'll have to pick this one up and read it, much as I did Death of the West. It's always an education with Pat - even when he goes off the rails.

Sunday Night Roundup

Well, as I spent the weekend on the road, I was out of the loop most of the time. However, there's plenty to bitch about, so let's get started.

Wag the Boob. Janet Jackson is so delusional - much like her plastic-man brother - that she thinks her bare breast was used as a distraction so that we could attack Iraq. Now there's someone who has bought into her own hype.

Why aren't the Olympics over yet? President Junior is going to the Olympics. Iraqi soccer team victorious? Still don't care. U.S. Basketball loses again? Funny, but not still interesting enough to tune in. Wake me when the games are over.

The French still suck. The french have burned down a Jewish Community Center. I think about the french every now and then - like when I take a huge dump. What a bunch of socialist, anti-semitic, lazy, smelly bastards. It seems like they're all a bunch of pacifists until someone puts down their wine long enough to say "let's go beat some Jews!" Only then do they spring into action - the rest of the time they're washing and ironing their white flags for the next surrender.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrgggh! One of my favorite paintings was stolen from an Oslo (Norway) museum. At least there is some humor in this story:

The two or three thieves, wearing black masks, threatened an employee of the Munch Museum with a handgun before grabbing the paintings, easily snapping the wires that attached them to the wall, witnesses and the police told The Associated Press and local media.

As everyone in Europe is disarmed, anyone showing up with a handgun can generally have anything they want on that continent.

Many museum visitors panicked and thought they were being attacked by terrorists.

"He was wearing a black face mask and something that looked like a gun to force a female security guard down on the floor," one witness, Marketa Cajova, told the NTB news agency.

In Europe, they're so frightened of guns, that they can't even be sure about identifying them. It was "something that looked like a gun," that fired something that looked like a bullet. Idiots.

Ed Koch is voting for President Junior. It's another dim-o-crack who knows that Kerry would lay down and take it from the terrorists, rather than go after them, as Bush has done. Hopefully most of the dimwitted "independents" will fall this way as well come November.

Well, there's plenty more, but the rest will have to wait until tomorrow. Gotta go unpack and what-not. Only a short week until the college football season begins. I may weep with joy.

More Leftist Hypocrisy

The lovely Mrs. Holmes was asking me recently, "have you heard Kerry rebut any of the content of the Swifties' book?"

The answer is no. And as I predicted to her a while back, the dim-o-cracks will not be able to fight the content of the swift vets' book, because when it comes to fighting facts with facts, the dim-o-cracks lose every time.

Now, in true Gorean fashion, Lurch is filing a complaint with the Federal Election Commission to try to stop the swifties' ad campaign.

Soros, Chris Matthews and the rest of the leftist bastards have gotten into the mix - requesting that bookstores remove the Swifties' books from the shelves. They've requested that the publisher withdraw the books. Still, no actual rebuttal of the facts brought out in the book itself.

You haven't heard the Bush camp demand that Fahrenheit 9/11 be removed from movie theaters. You haven't heard them demand that the 4,500 books that have come out this year lying about Bush, Cheney, Halliburton, Rumsfeld, etc, be taken off the shelves. You haven't heard the RNC demand that the New York Times be shut down - though that would be a blessing. You haven't heard these things because true political censorship always comes from the left.

As is often the case, when liberals don't like a dissenting opinion, they either shout down the other side, or run to the government using terms like "hate speech" and demanding censorship. This is just another example of the rampant liberal hypocrisy. They're soaking in it.

The Vaginas are Back

Now this sounds like an evening of pure entertainment: The election event of the season, "Vaginas Vote, Chicks Rock!"

On the evening of September 13th, actors, singers, dancers, thinkers and leaders will all come together at the historic Apollo Theater in Harlem for a night of entertainment and political empowerment.

Confirmed to date: Vanessa Carlton, Toni Childs, Rosario Dawson, Eve Ensler, Jane Fonda, Rha Goddess & WE GOT ISSUES, Jehmu Greene, Isabella Rossellini, Susan Sarandon (pending availability), Rep. Jan Schakowsky, Gloria Steinem, Julia Stiles, Marie Wilson, and many more. WE GOT ISSUES has been commissioned by V-Day for the event and will feature young women speaking out through a performance-based dialogue on feminine power, politics, and civic transformation. The Executive Producers are V-Day Founder/Playwright Eve Ensler and V-Counsel Member/Actor Jane Fonda.

"Vaginas Vote, Chicks Rock" takes place less than 2 months before the presidential election and organizers are using the power of arts and activism to motivate and inspire all women-especially young women-to raise their voices and get out the vote to end violence against women and girls.

Unmarried women are the LARGEST group of people not participating in our democracy. Sixteen million unmarried women are unregistered; more than 22 million didn't vote in 2000.

"There are thousands of V-Day activists standing up to end violence against women. The time has come to take that vagina power to the polls," said Eve Ensler, founder of V-Day and playwright of The Vagina Monologues and The Good Body. "Join us on the 13th for an evening of inspiration, imagination and amazing performances. Value your vagina -- Vote!"

I was so worried that vaginas in this country were going unheard from. I'm glad they've finally found their voice. As everybody knows, that the only people who commit violence against women are white males who vote Republican. They may not do it with their fists, but they do it with their repressiveness and through domination of the remote control.

Like so many other "get out the vote" groups, these twits claim to be "non-partisan". In reality, their only mission is to drum up more votes for their anti-war war hero, Lurch.

Next time someone comes knocking at your door trying to "get out the vote", greet them with a grenade launcher.

When Will This Madman be Stopped!?

Al Gore gets speeding ticket in Oregon.

When will this criminally insane lawbreaker finally be put behind bars for good???

First, he took illegal campaign cash from Buddhist monks. Then he attempted to steal the 2000 Presidential election and re-write election law through his excessive lawsuit-filing. Now he's endangered Oregonians with his homicidally reckless driving.

You may think that driving 75 in a 55 is "no big deal", but he could have easily crashed his fossil-fuel burning rental car into oncoming traffic. He could have run over a moose or some other innocent wildlife - perhaps an endangered grouse or river otter. Or - worst case scenario - he could have veered off the roadway and damaged a tree - perhaps a tree that in which Julia Butterfly Hill once sat and worshipped Gaia.

These possibilities are all too horrific to even consider - so, I beg you, Oregon State Police - lock this madman up before he commits another crime!

Good News from Ramallah

(Via LGF)

Terrorist killed while preparing bomb...

The story notes that the terrorist (Reuters translation: Freedom-fighter) critically injured his parents while trying to manufacture his device. I suppose this was a case of reaping what they've sewn.

It's too bad this type of "accident" doesn't happen more often to Palestinian bomb laborers. I'm sure the bomb-makers' union will have something to say about these unsafe working conditions.

More Government Run Amok

I guess I've been out of the loop - just discovered this item courtesy of Neal Boortz.

Caught on tape: Cops use taser on man trying to get home.

Understandably, there are a lot of pissed off people in the wake of Hurricane Charley and the local authorities aren't helping the situation with horseshit like this. Per Boortz:

By now you've already seen the video. It's been on most of the cable news channels, including Fox News and CNN. It's a videotape of Ft. Meyers police stunning a citizen with an electric shock because he tried to drive by them to get to his home .... HIS HOME ... four days after the passage of Hurricane Charley. This man was shot with a stun gun, dragged out his car in front of his children, thrown on the ground, handcuffed and taken to jail ... because he wanted to go home.

Even before this hurricane hit I was telling you that people would refuse to abide by evacuation orders, not because they wanted to defy death by facing down a hurricane, but because they didn't want to be prevented from returning to their homes after the hurricane passed. Now the Ft. Meyers police have brilliantly demonstrated just what I was talking about.

For most of us our homes are the biggest investment we will ever make. Most of us have the bulk of our net worth tied up in our homes. When we protect and defend our homes we are protecting a good portion of our life's work and the very basis of our financial security. These police in Ft. Meyers got between a man and his home ... and that's never a real good place to make a stand.

Yes, I understand that there are safety concerns. Fine. Tell the people that returning to their home might be dangerous, and then let them make an informed decision as to whether or not they wish to undertake that risk. Our laws will permit us to jump out of perfectly good airplanes, ride boats through the Grand Canyon and have unprotected sex with strangers, but we can't go back to our homes after a hurricane?

The question remains, how much do we really need government protecting us from ourselves? We've got too much of that going on as it is, and we certainly don't need overzealous Barney Fife-types tasering homeowners in front of their kids. This is one of those rare situations where I would be happy to see a lawsuit emerge against these pricks. Hurricane or no hurricane, this is crap.

Kobe Bryant's Slam Dunk

I've been trying to avoid writing about the Kobe Bryant rape case, but since it's about to crumble, I might as well weigh in. I know my throngs of readers are just dying to know my thoughts on the case. In cases like this, I tend to side with the woman filing the charges - and even moreso when the accused is a star athlete at any level. My reaction to this case has been different from the start, however.

Sports stars play by different rules as soon as they are cherry-picked for greatness in high-school -- or even middle-school, for that matter. More often than not, they are passed through academic courses so that they may be kept on the playing field. They are treated with kid gloves at every turn, and their transgressions are often swept under the rug - unless their crimes are so egregious that they can't be hidden and potential jail time comes into play.

With this in mind, the Bryant case, superficially at least, seems like a slam-dunk for the prosecution.

However, for some reason, this case jumped out at me as a money-grab from the very beginning. An opportunistic (and hot) young blonde predator - yes, I said predator - saw a chance for some quick cash and a romp in the sack with a superstar and went for it. Neither party denies that they got it on, but the question is - was it consentual - and as more of the young lady's sexual history has come out, it looks more and more like it probably was.

Therefore, as more news comes out about the case falling apart, my money is riding on the case being tossed out. Once that happens, it will be interesting to see how much money she can make via the civil courts.

If it turns out that some unexpected evidence turns up and Kobe is proven guilty in criminal court, someone remind me to eat crow.

John Kerry: Common Man of the People

Kerry flies his Washington D.C. hairdresser to Portland, Oregon for a touch-up.

Another shining example of how the Dim-O-Crack party's billionaire nominee relates to his blue-collar constituency.

Blogging for Bush?

Johnny Walker Red over at Right on Red has an excellent testimonial on why he's voting for President Junior in November.

As I've previously posted, I too will be punching Junior's chad in November - and for one reason: he has already proven that, under fire and against world opinion, he is best able to lead us in the war on terror, which is the only issue that matters this year.

As Johnny pointed out to me a while back, President Junior's excessive domestic spending won't be an issue when we're all dead. More from Johnny's post:

I'm voting for President Bush because his number one priority above all others is the defense of the American people, and our way of life, from all threats, both at home and abroad. The primary responsibility of the federal government is to provide for the common defense, and George W. Bush takes this responsibility as seriously as any chief executive ever has.

President Bush has my vote because he had the strength of conviction to do what he believed necessary to defend the American people, even when much of world opinion was against it. The President has shown that his only obligation is to his countrymen. He has proven that he would risk his political career and his historical legacy to protect his fellow Americans.

I'm voting for President Bush because I believe he is an honest man who knows the difference between right and wrong. He is a leader, able to make the difficult choices that come with the office. When the intelligence community told him of the danger of WMDs, he erred on the side of security rather than insecurity. He understands that it is better to risk a foreign policy mistake than to risk another September 11th.

Well put. Go read the whole post.

9/11 Tribute?

Quite honestly, I don't know what this is, but I just found it going through some old digital pix and thought it needed to be posted.

This was a license plate on the front of someone's car. I suppose that was their own "personal" style of tribute, but what a freakin' odd way to commemorate 9/11. By the way, this is NOT one of the 9/11 images I recommend you send to a liberal friend.

Last Olympics-Related Post for a While, I Promise

Rob, at Say Anything, has discovered and shared the Athens Olympics official (hilarious) linking policy.

Some details:

a) Use the term ATHENS 2004 only, and no other term as the text referent

b) Not associate the link with any image, esp. the ATHENS 2004 Emblem (see paragraph below)

c) Send a request letter to the Internet Department stating: Short description of site Reason for linking Unique URL containing the link (if no unique URL than just the main URL) Publishing period Contact point (e-mail address)

Once the request has been mailed, interested parties can proceed to include the link and will only receive a response if ATHENS 2004 does not accept the link. All requests should be sent to...

So, in the spirit of Rob's "disorganized boobs" link, here are some others...

International Summer Shitbox 2004
The "Who Cares?" Games!
Go! Ghana! Go!
The World's Best Goatherders in Action!
Come to Athens! Everyone smells like shit!

Oh, I could go on. We'll see if the big bad Olympics comes after me. Given their attendance so far, they may come after me to offer me free tickets!

Granny D All Up In The Hizzy!

94-year old grandmother running for New Hampshire senate seat - seeking to unseat liberal Republican Judd Gregg in this November's election.

Well, I don't know if Gregg is a liberal Republican or not, but most of those Northeastern Republican-types are usually leftists in sheeps' clothing. (See Jim Jeffords, for example)

Doris Haddock, or "Granny D" - a moniker she has adopted to keep her from getting mugged or killed in the types of neighborhoods she'll have to campaign in as a Dim-O-Crat - has come out swinging, making sure everyone knows that she is "not a nice old lady."

Haddock vehemently opposes the war in Iraq, and calls Gregg "an enabler of George Bush's neo-con scourge." The daughter of a warehouse worker, she decries the flight of good jobs overseas that is making us "a nation of Wal-Mart greeters."

"I am the angry grandmother come off my porch to ask young Judd what in the world he is thinking when he supports Bush's military misadventures, supports the transfer of billions of our tax dollars to billionaires and supports the shipping of our jobs overseas," Haddock said in announcing her candidacy this summer.

While no one is really quite sure what she's talking about, this is certainly an entertaining election story at the very least. Even though I personally disagree with her positions and unintelligible rhetoric, I can't help but pull for her just a little bit.

Granny D is no stranger to taking on challenges - she "once walked across the country despite emphysema brought on by a half-century of smoking." If the Republicans in congress had half the spunk of Granny D, they might not be the limp-wristed whipping boys of the Dim-O-Crat minority.

Speaking of the GOP, in typical "please don't hurt me, I'm just a wittle wepublican" fashion, Judd Gregg is refusing to fight back.

Gregg has not responded to Haddock's attacks. "I'm going to run on my issues," Gregg has said. "I don't spend a lot of time trying to juxtapose myself with my other opponents."

Translated: "I'm not going to make any comments because I am a weak Republican and I don't want to add to the reality that there's barely a lick of difference between myself and my opposition."

Is it any wonder conservatives are jumping off the GOP ship with weakness like this?

Now I'm Really In Trouble

Empty Olympic stadiums set off alarm bells.

Okay, now I'm going to really be in trouble with the Mrs. My second olympic post in the same day. But, fear not, for it is good news. Well, good news for those of us who can't stand the games.

On Saturday, the first full day of competition, weightlifter Nurcan Taylan became the first Turkish woman to win an Olympic gold medal but her feat was achieved in a near empty stadium.

On Sunday, tennis superstars Venus Williams and Andy Roddick, used to playing to packed courts, began their Olympic quest to vacant stands.

Organising officals tried to play down the crisis, saying that they knew at the beginning of the Games some events would be badly attended because they were not popular sports in Greece.

"As we move on it will be much, much higher," said spokesman Michalis Zacharatos. "We are very pleased with our ticket sales."

But the International Olympic Committee knows its brand image is damaged by the sight of near empty stadiums.

It's nice to know that so many other folks have a similar revulsion to this international vomit.

UPDATE: Gary, over at IHaveACrazyWife.Com, has more Olympic breaking news regarding a titanic struggle between the U.S. and Romanians in the rowing competition.

The NBA Sucks

U.S. Olympic Basketball gets their asses kicked by lowly Puerto Rico.

Okay, Mrs. Holmes is going to shoe me in the nuts for this one, but I couldn't resist. I was going to completely boycott the Olympics (much like the U.S. did the Moscow games in 1980), due to my intense dislike for the games, but this one had to be blogged.

The Puerto Ricans - known more for baseball than basketball for sure - beat the living hell out of America's basketball prima donnas 92-73.

While this doesn't knock the U.S. out of gold medal contention, it certainly is a kick in the teeth, and a well-deserved one at that. These NBA superstars have demonstrated how much the NBA game has turned into nothing more than a bunch of self-absorbed over-paid showboats who have no concept of team-oriented sports. The NBA has sucked hard since the early 90's and this is just another example of its continuing downhill slide.

Now, if the NBA would just go on strike for the next year, I would be truly elated.

UPDATE: Drudge must have been reading my blog, as he was just going off on his weekly (thank goodness it's only weekly) radio show about how the U.S. Olympic basketball team came out during the opening ceremonies with an attitude of "show me the gold... where do I go pick up my gold..." He did, however, point out that they weren't talking about new gold for their teeth, but rather Olympic gold.

Hurricane Charley's Aftermath

It's now being reported that Hurricane Charley has killed at least 15 people in Florida since yesterday afternoon and caused potentially billions in damage.

President Junior has weighed in, calling Florida a Federal Disaster Area. However, this was prior to the hurricane's devastation. After the hurricane hit, President Junior called it a "Really Really Disasterous Disaster Area."

Not to be outdone, Lurch and his Dingbat Wife have chimed in, extending their "heartfelt sympathies" to those impacted by the storm's brutality.

Lurch also said the following:

"If I had been president during hurricane Charley, we would have been better prepared. The damage and loss of life wouldn't have been nearly so great. I would have called in experts from the United Nations and European Union before the hurricane had even developed, and we would have had an effective course of action, not the standard neo-con reactionary Republican approach to hurricanes!"

Shortly after Lurch finished his statement, Theresa wrapped her head in aluminum foil and requested that the media help distract & divert the fleet of miniature alien spaceships that have been following her for the last three weeks.

Nanny State Redux?

Discovered (via Right On Red & Say Anything) this story about a woman jailed for smoking in front of her kids.

I have mixed feelings about this story - it's not as simple as mere nanny-state nitwittery. Some details:

A Virginia mother was sentenced Thursday to 10 days in jail for defying a court order not to smoke in front of her children.

The sentence is the latest development in a bitter and long-running custody battle between Silvius and her former husband, Steven Silvius, over the care of their children, ages 10 and 8. But the restriction on smoking has captured far greater attention.

"It is within the court's powers to jail somebody for criminal contempt, but she's not happy about getting 10 days," said her attorney, Tucker Henley. "Virginia is such a big tobacco state, it's kind of surprising. I've never heard of a case where you restrict behavior this way."

Her ex-husband's attorney, Mark Murphy of Fredericksburg, said the measure was necessary to protect the health of the children, who live with their father and often visit their mother on weekends. The Silviuses have joint custody.

The bottom line is that this restriction was part of an agreement for the mother to have visitation with the kids - therefore, if she violates that agreement, she should either have her visitation rights terminated or - in this case - do some jail time. It's not as cut-and-dried as "woman jailed for smoking in front of her children."

Another angle of this story that should be considered is the unlikely situation where the father got primary custody of the kids. Our court system is heavily biased towards awarding custody to the mother in situations like these. Without knowing much about the situation, you'd have to figure the mom is a pretty serious scumbag to lose custody to the father.

As a parent, when I see people smoking in front of their kids - particularly in an enclosed car, I have an urge to pull them over and perform a Reginald Denny on them. However, at least for the time being, this is a free country and people are free to be assholes if they like. Some kids just lose out to the luck of the draw in a lot of these situations.

If I'm the father in this case, I try to get the sentence extended to more than 10 days.

A New Role Model for the Left

New Jersey Governor Resigns, Admits Gay Affair.

Doesn't that sounds like somebody talking about a cocktail party from the 1930's? "It was a gay affair, I tell you! Glenn Miller's Orchestra really had the joint jumpin'!"

In a stunning declaration, Gov. James E. McGreevey announced his resignation Thursday and acknowledged that he had an affair with another man. "My truth is that I am a gay American," he said with his wife by his side at a nationally televised news conference.

Thank God he cleared that up - I was about to question his patriotism! Wait, there's more!

"Shamefully, I engaged in adult consensual affairs with another man, which violates my bonds of matrimony," the twice-married father of two said. "It was wrong, it was foolish, it was inexcusable."

McGreevey, 47, refused to answer questions at the Statehouse news conference. He said "it makes little difference that as governor I am gay," but added that staying in office and keeping the affair and his sexual orientation secret will leave the governor's office "vulnerable to rumors, false allegations and threats of disclosure."

How could he be any more vulnerable to rumors or allegations? Once he's outed, shouldn't he just go back to work? Don't the children of New Jersey need a gay democratic Governor more than any other kind of Governor? And where did this all start for the Governor, you ask?

As a candidate and governor, the former altar boy proudly discussed his Catholic faith but publicly disagreed with church leaders over his support for abortion rights and same-sex partnerships. He pushed for the state's domestic partnership law, which went into effect this year.

In an announcement that at times was deeply introspective, McGreevey referred to his lifelong struggles with his sexuality.

Now, I'm not trying to say anything about the Catholics, but...

It certainly sounds like the good Governor was taken in by a con man, granted, apparently a really hot con man, who portrayed himself as a security specialist. Maybe what he meant was that the Governor could feel "secure" in his loving arms.

Two sources close to McGreevey, both speaking on condition of anonymity, said the man involved in the affair was Golan Cipel, an Israeli poet who worked briefly for the governor as a homeland security adviser despite having no security experience.

One source, a senior McGreevey political adviser, said Cipel threatened McGreevey several weeks ago that unless he was paid "millions of dollars," Cipel would file a lawsuit against the governor charging him with sexual harassment.

That source said a lawyer for Cipel "indicated that should the money be paid, Cipel would disappear until after the 2005 election."

The second source, a high-ranking member of the McGreevey administration, said Cipel made several threats about a lawsuit and demanded "an exorbitant sum of money to make it go away." Cabinet members and administration officials learned of that threat Wednesday night, the official said.

As the good Mrs. Holmes pointed out last night, while enraptured by the "I'm a Gay American" speech, at least all this pain and suffering heaped upon the good people of New Jersey was because it was a love affair. It's better that it was for true love rather than some type of seedy carnal pleasure.

And where is the rainbow lobby on this?

Gay rights groups expressed support and compassion for McGreevey, but their reactions were tinged with sorrow because McGreevey announced his resignation just as he became the nation's first openly gay governor.

"It is a very sad to thing to watch. It is kind of stunning, sad to me that in 2004 people are still having to struggle because of homophobia in society to come to terms with who they are," said Kevin Cathcart, executive director of Lambda Legal.

Sadly, Lambda Lobby, you miss the point once again. This would be a character issue whether the love affair was with a man or a woman. I realize that's hard for your ilk to wrap your minds around, but it's about what extra-marital affairs say about a person's character - not that they are *gasp* gay. But then again, one of your primary goals is to put the final nail in the coffin of traditional marriage, so this story only goes to bolster your position on how tyrannical the institution truly is. Good luck, Governor.

Swift Boat Blackout

In this morning's column, the lovely and talented Ann Coulter analyzes the Old Media's blackout of the Swift Boat Vets' story.

A nugget:

Kerry was in Vietnam for only four months, which, coincidentally, is less than the combined airtime he's spent talking about it. It takes a special kind of person to get that many people to hate your guts in so little time. The last time this many people hated one person after only four months was when Margaret Cho had her own sitcom.

But our young Eddie Haskell managed to annoy other servicemen even before he came home and called them war criminals. About 60 eyewitnesses to Kerry's service are cited in the book, describing Kerry fleeing comrades who were under attack, disregarding orders, putting others in danger, sucking up to his commanders, creating phony film footage of his exploits with a home-movie camera, and recommending himself for medals and Purple Hearts in vainglorious reports he wrote himself. (This was apparently before the concept of "fragging" put limits on such behavior.)

After three months of combat, Kerry had collected enough film footage for his political campaigns, so he went home. He even shot three different endings to the episode where he chases down a VC guy after test audiences thought Kerry shooting a wounded teenager in the back was too much of a "downer." After filming his last staged exploit, Kerry reportedly told a buddy, "That's a wrap. See you at the convention in about 35 years."

Kerry is demanding to be made president on the basis of spending four months in Vietnam 35 years ago. And yet the men who know what he did during those four months don't think he's fit to be dogcatcher. That seems newsworthy to me, but I must be wrong since the media have engineered a total blackout of the Swift Boat Veterans.

With the media playing their usual role as Truth Commissar for the now-dead Soviet Union, the Swiftees are having to purchase ad time in order to be heard. No Tim Russert interviews, no "Today" show appearances, no New York Times editorials or Vanity Fair hagiographies for these heretics against the liberal religion. The only way Swift Boat Veterans for Truth could get less attention would be to go on "Air America" radio.

Oh, just go read it.

Leftists recoil at 9/11 images

I was just revisiting this post at Something To Cry About - and it caused me to consider what it is that makes pants-shitting leftists have such visceral reactions to 9/11 images. As this is election season, and we're approaching the three-year anniversary of the attacks, it's a timely topic to ponder.

The primary reason that the left so reviles any mention or memory of the 9/11 attacks is because it exposes their belief system (if you can make the logical leap of suggesting that liberals have a belief system) as nothing more than a massive load of bunk.

Their pacifism is deadly - deadly to Americans who actually want to remain alive. Their belief that all people are inherently good and can be reasoned with was blown up on 9/11. Their multiculturalism and hyper-tolerance were proven to be our achilles heel on 9/11 - and we're paying the price to this day. They can't accept that true evil exists, because they've spent so much time using the term "evil" to describe Enron and Ronald Reagan.

In short, 9/11 images are to leftists as garlic is to Dracula, as kryptonite is to Superman, and as the vice squad is to Barney Frank's gay basement prostitution ring.

In the weeks and months following 9/11, liberalism was thankfully dead. They were proven irrelevent. In fact, many liberals were horrified by the attacks - not because of the slaughter and the murderous insanity - but because of the very hatred they felt as a reaction to the events - hatred that they had no idea was inside them. Everyone - liberals included (except for the Ted Ralls, Michael Moores and Hillary Clintons, who believed that either we deserved it or it was a plot hatched by the Bush Administration) - responded with a justifiable blood lust for revenge. A good number of Americans - myself included - still feel this way about the Islamofascists.

Every time the liberals are confronted with 9/11 images, they start talking about how "tasteless" and "disrespectful" it is to even mention 9/11. This is how the Old Media has removed the images from television, print and the web. They are hoping that out of sight truly is out of mind - and, for a lot of brain-dead, reality-T.V.-watching Americans, this approach works like gangbusters.

Back to the aforementioned post at Something To Cry About.

This post very deftly lays out the Kerry Doctrine. When Lurch boldly "reported for duty" at the Dim-O-Crack convention a few weeks ago, he laid out his terrorism plan. Simply put, he will (1) get Europe to help us fight the Islamofascists, then (2) after waiting for another terrorist attack, he'll really think about going after them. The post's text is simple:

Help Is on the Way...

Fellow Americans, While you plunge to your death please remember that John Forbes Kerry will go after the terrorists...after you hit the ground.

And those terrorists will be tried in U.S. Courts (where O.J. Simpson received American Justice) as criminals with hundreds of attorneys from the Middle East, Germany and France defending them; and, since Kerry does not support the death penalty for terrorists, will spend the rest of their lives in jail contemplating their actions.

Remember, these are criminals and your death resulted from an act of murder, NOT war.

Rest assured, sir, as you fall to your death, that the Kerry Doctrine will do its best to avenge your death but will do nothing to prevent it.

The post's text is interspersed with images from the 9/11 attack on the WTC - it's a very simple post that makes a brutally poignant point. So much so that some leftist commenters have proven my assertion that liberalism is a psychological disorder with drivel like this:

A tasteless use of images from a targic event. Saying Kerry would not have prevented this is also rather hypocritical considering that Bush didn't prevent it either.
You're one sick puppy to use tragedy for political gain.

Man, you're too fucking stupid to realize that the only people KERRY SUPPORTS THE DEATH PENALTY FOR ARE TERRORISTS!! Get a life, you right-wing war monger.
Kerry Supporter

Um, I'm pretty sure that death caused by war is still an act of murder. Also, as OJ Simpson was found Not Guilty, he did receive justice. He was innocent until proven guilty right? And then subsequentally not found guilty? Just making sure I have the Facts correct.
Yes No OK

Dude, not only is this a disgusting use of tragedy (which I imagine the Bush campaign will give serious thought to emulating), it's utterly dishonest.
You refer to Middle Eastern, French and German lawyers as lining up to defend terrorists, but the link you provide mentions no Germans, one Frenchman and one American, the latter which you somehow neglect to mention. You missed the chance to tar an American leftist, you big dummy.
I do have to admit though that Aisha Gadhafi is hotter than hell, a place that I would imagine a post like this reserves you your own special ring in.

You right-wing war mongers deserve to be killed in another attack. And I don't regret saying that.

This is why we need to see as many 9/11 images as possible over this election season and beyond. We are currently in the midst of World War III and it's not a traditional war in the sense of WWI & WWII. This is a completely different type of war - one in which our enemies target our civilians instead of our military, and one in which we must urgently kill the Islamofascists before they figure out a way to kill us. This doesn't mean that we follow Lurch's doctrine and sit back, hold hands and sing Puff the Magic Dragon and wait for the next attack. We do what President Bush has already started - go after them until they are taking a dirt nap or no longer able to fight back.

Let's make today "Send a 9/11 image to your liberal friends" day. They'll hate you for it, but there's still a slim chance that you'll wake them back up from their delusional CNN-state-of-mind.

60 Minutes' Mike Wallace Arrested

Mike Wallace was arrested Tuesday for "disorderly conduct" when his limo driver double parked -- then a ruckus ensued as the dreaded Taxi & Limousine Commission took swift action, arresting the 86-year-old lawbreaker.

What Wallace should have been arrested and jailed for are his many years of crimes against journalism.

Opportunity to pummel French anti-semites sadly missed

Discovered (via LGF) this story of some Jewish students attacked at - of all places - Auschwitz, Poland.

Here's the story from the Jerusalem Post - Jewish Students Attacked at Auschwitz.

While on a tour of the museum at the Auschwitz death camp in Poland on Sunday, a group of around 50 Jewish university students from Israel, the U.S. and Poland were verbally attacked by a three-member gang of French male tourists.

Evidently incited by the presence of an Israeli flag wrapped around the shoulders of Tamar Schuri, an Israeli student from Ben Gurion University, the first assailant ran at the group while its members were being guided through a model gas chamber and crematoria and began swearing and hurling anti-Semitic and anti-Israeli insults.

"He told us to go back to Israel and said that we were stupid and should be ashamed to walk around with an Israeli flag," testifies Maya Ober, a 21-year-old Polish student at the Academy of Fine Arts in Poznan and member of the Polish Union of Jewish Students (PUSZ), which organized the 16-day summer learning program along with the World Union of Jewish Students (WUJS).

After the initial altercation, a second assailant grabbed Ober by the arm. "One of the guys held me by the arm and wouldn't let go," says Ober, who lost several members of her family at Auschwitz. "I was afraid. I couldn't move and I didn't know what he was going to do.

"I was shocked. Although I have met anti-Semitism many times, I never expected to meet it at Auschwitz, where so many of my relatives were killed," she says she spoke to the assailants in French and that in addition to being "brutish and vulgar," their sentiments "made absolutely no sense."

This demonstrates just how depraved French anti-semitic culture has become. It was also an opportunity lost - with 3 French idiots vs. 50 students, this was no contest. The Frenchies should have been given the kind of collective beating that would have hospitalized them for weeks, but instead they were given a pass by the pacifist students and Polish authorities.

Feds Suddenly Decide to Enforce the Law

U.S. to give Border Patrol new powers to deport illegal aliens.

In a shocking move, the federal government has decided to actually allow agents to kick illegals out on their ass, instead of giving them a year to team up with the ACLU and demand Social Security and prescription drugs.

The move, which will take effect this month, represents a broad expansion of the authority of the thousands of law enforcement agents who currently patrol the nation's borders. Until now, border patrol agents typically delivered undocumented immigrants to the custody of the immigration courts, where judges determined whether they should be deported or remain in the United States.

Homeland Security officials described the immigration courts — which hear pleas for asylum and other appeals to remain in the country — as sluggish and cumbersome, saying illegal immigrants often wait more than a year before being deported, straining the capacity of detention centers and draining critical resources. Under the new system, immigrants will typically be deported within eight days of their apprehension, officials said.

Despite the fact that these illegals already know how to game the system (thanks to the ACLU's helpful U.S. court tutorials) before they ever cross the border, this might actually mean that we might be able to kick at least a few of them out once we catch them. There is a dark side, however:

The border agents will focus on deporting third-country nationals, rather than Mexicans or Canadians, and they are expected to begin exercising their new powers on Aug. 24 in Tucson and Laredo, Tex.

Why the hell are we going to be cherry-picking illegals? Is it because Mexican President Vicente Fox and our own President Junior are still in the throes of a passionate love affair? Is it because third-country nationals are slower, and therefore easier to catch in a foot-race? Is it because third-country nationals are seen as "cooler" and more "hip" than their Mexican and Canadian counterparts?

"There is a concern that as we tighten the security of our ports of entry through our biometric checks that there will be more opportunity or more effort made by terrorists to enter our country through our vast land borders," Asa Hutchinson, the undersecretary for border security at the Department of Homeland Security, said at a news conference.

"We recognize that we have to secure those and that's the president's first principle of immigration reform," Mr. Hutchinson said. "America must secure its borders and this is a part of that effort."

The decision was hailed by officials who have long complained that the nation's porous borders represent a serious threat to national security. But it prompted a flurry of criticism from advocates for immigrants who warned that the new system lacked adequate safeguards to ensure that people fleeing persecution, American citizens lacking paperwork or other travelers with legitimate grounds would not be improperly deported.

Mr. Hutchinson said that border agents would be trained on asylum law and that immigrants who demonstrated a credible fear of persecution would be sent to see immigrant judges, not returned to hostile governments. "That right," he said of the right to apply for asylum, "is very important."

You would think that the left would love this idea. They were so threatened by 10-year old Cuban boy Elian Gonzalez, that they rallied the entire B.A.T.F. to go and round him up for deportation. Or perhaps Janet Reno was just hoping to be able to bulldoze and burn down another building where she knew children might be getting homeschooled.

U.S. allows in Eurotrash Inspectors

A little late, but had to chime in on this one. When this story was floated around a month ago, I thought it was a joke. But, once again, I've been reminded not to take anything for granted, no matter how absurd - and this is as absurd as it gets.

International team to monitor presidential election.

The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe was invited to monitor the election by the State Department. The observers will come from the OSCE's Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights.

It will be the first time such a team has been present for a U.S. presidential election.

"The U.S. is obliged to invite us, as all OSCE countries should," spokeswoman Urdur Gunnarsdottir said. "It's not legally binding, but it's a political commitment. They signed a document 10 years ago to ask OSCE to observe elections."

Thirteen Democratic members of the House of Representatives, raising the specter of possible civil rights violations that they said took place in Florida and elsewhere in the 2000 election, wrote to U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan in July, asking him to send observers.

After Annan rejected their request, saying the administration must make the application, the Democrats asked Secretary of State Colin Powell to do so.

The issue was hotly debated in the House, and Republicans got an amendment to a foreign aid bill that barred federal funds from being used for the United Nations to monitor U.S. elections, The Associated Press reported.

In a letter dated July 30 and released last week, Assistant Secretary of State Paul Kelly told the Democrats about the invitation to OSCE, without mentioning the U.N. issue.

"I am pleased that Secretary Powell is as committed as I am to a fair and democratic process," said Democratic Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson of Texas, who spearheaded the effort to get U.N. observers.

"The presence of monitors will assure Americans that America cares about their votes and it cares about its standing in the world," she said in a news release.

Democratic Rep. Barbara Lee of California agreed.

"This represents a step in the right direction toward ensuring that this year's elections are fair and transparent," she said.

"I am pleased that the State Department responded by acting on this need for international monitors. We sincerely hope that the presence of the monitors will make certain that every person's voice is heard, every person's vote is counted."

These delusional retards are still so bent out of shape over 2000 that they've succeeded in giving away our electoral sovereignty to euro-socialist bastards. It's not so much that anything these dimwits say will have any bearing on the outcome of the election - it's more the attention that they'll get from the mainstream press when there is a close race in a state or locality. We'll be hearing so much from the Old Media about what "international inspectors" are saying about this or that. It will be just one more thing to make my head explode in November.

We have two people to thank for this affront to our electoral process. The first is Al Gore - the maniacal lunatic who started us down the road of "if you don't win, sue!" He was so predestined (by the liberals' political God - whoever that might be - in Al's case probably a tree), that he couldn't accept that he had been defeated. Four years later, the party of trial lawyers will have a whole new branch of euro-crybabies to set up lawsuits wherever they don't like the results of a particular race.

The second person to blame for this slap-in-the-face is Colin Powell. It's really no surprise coming from the biggest lefty in the administration - second only to President Junior himself. It's probably a good thing that Colin won't be at the GOP convention - I took enough of a tongue lashing from him in 2000 for being a white male conservative.
